Experience the Essence of Egypt at our East Coast Intensive with Zara of Egypt! We will have two days of dance workshops for to immerse yourself in Egyptian dance and culture.
Zara of Cairo is an internationally recognized belly dancer with bases in Cairo, Egypt, and London, UK. She is a vibrant dancer who has both Egyptian and English heritage.
Zara’s dancing has taken her to many countries around the world. She has performed in the UK, Egypt, Kenya (both in Nairobi and Mombasa), Tanzania (in both Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar), Pakistan, and Malta.
Zara is a skilled dancer who specializes in various Egyptian dance styles including Mahraganat, Baladi, Raqs Sharqi, Oriental, Fellahine, and Saidi. Her Shaabi and Fego street dancing style is particularly popular among her fans.
Apart from dance, Zara is also interested in Salsa, make-up, and nail art. She is an accomplished physicist having studied the subject for 10 years in the UK’s top universities. Zara holds a PhD in Quantum Optics and Laser Physics, making her a Doctor.

11am-1pm Turns, Travels, and Transitions: Elevate your dance flow with a workshop dedicated to the movements that connect your choreography with confidence and polish. In this session, we’ll break down a variety of belly dance turns, traveling steps, and seamless transitions that help you move across the floor with grace and intention.
Perfect for dancers looking to add elegance, variety, and continuity to their movement.
2pm-4pm Mahargranat Technique & Choreography: Zara is going to be teaching a fun, exhilarating Mahragnat choreography, full of fun fresh moves from Cairo.
Not only will you learn a great choreo, you will also have the option to perform it alongside Zara in showcase Saturday night! This workshop covers Technique and Choreography.
11am-1pm BadA$$ Baladi: Discover the essence of a TRUE Baladi! Are you ready to master one of the most captivating solo performances a bellydancer can showcase? Join us for an enlightening workshop where we dissect the elements of a traditional Baladi tubule. You'll learn how to express a deep, grounded Taxim, culminating in a dynamic finale that puts you in the driver's seat. This workshop focuses on Technique, Expression, Understanding, and enhancing your improvisation skills. Don't miss this opportunity to elevate your dance!
2pm-4pm Egyptian Bellydancers: A Disapearing Act
Seeing less and less Egyptian Dancers in Egypt? - Zara invites you to an important talk discussing cultural, political, economic & social issues facing Egyptian Bellydancers.
We will look at how foreign privilege, the growing importance of social media, the challenges on feminist movements in the Arab world & various events in the Middle East affected the dance industry.
In addition to this, we will analyze how these issues have lead to the growing domination of Western & Foreign dancers in Egypt, bringing up the important question: What does the future hold for “Egyptian” Bellydance?
